Corn and Cassava

3rd, 4th and 5th Grade students explore food processing in hands-on agroecology class.

In June, students from the 3th, 4th and 5th grades participated in a special agroecology class featuring two guests from the school community — Daniela Garcia and Thiago Avelaneda — who shared their knowledge in preparing pamonha and puba.(traditional Brazilian recipe made from corn and cassava)

The activity was part of our interdisciplinary content on food sovereignty, a central theme in this year’s agroecology curriculum. It offered students the chance to engage with ancestral knowledge and the values of collective work.

During the session, children took part in every step of the preparation, learning about the importance of food processing, family farming, and  aluing  traditional food culture.

This initiative — part of our broader educational project focused on Human Rights — strengthens students’ connection to the land and fosters a food culture that is conscious, healthy, and sustainable.
